MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING

Motivational Interviewing is a client centered counseling style for eliciting behavior change. This process helps clients through the emotional stages of change necessary to find their motivation. Motivational Interviewing supports self-efficacy and optimism. The goals of Motivational Interviewing are to assist individuals in recognizing the effects of their behaviors and motivating them towards positive change.

STAGES OF CHANGE

Positive change comes from 5 stages: Pre-contemplation, Contemplation, Preparation, Action, and Maintenance.  The stages of change is a key component to the Transtheoretical Model and is an approach used to evaluate an individual's readiness for change. It identifies several stages in the change process and can be applied to making any change in life. Our counselors can help guide you through these stages.
